As parents, you are the primary educators of your children in the Church. When we have our children baptized, we accept the responsibility of raising them in the faith. God empowers us with His grace to raise children who will know God's mercy and plan for their lives. Word of Life supports families with a wide array of resources to grow in the knowledge and love of Jesus together.
CHILDREN & FAMILY FAITH FORMATION
WHAT TO EXPECT
WORD OF LIFE CURRICULUM
We are excited to announce that we are using a curriculum this year called “Word of Life”. The Augustine Institute and Ignatius Press have joined together to provide a multi-faceted K through 8th Grade Curriculum that calls children and parents to conversion and transformation in Christ. Our hope is that Word of Life will help both students and their families discover their authentic Catholic identity to reinvigorate fruitful participation in the Church’s life and mission.
The Word of Life curriculum emphasizes four threads for children and their families to better understand:
Salvation History – Proclaims God’s presence in history, His plan for man and our place in that plan.
Christian Anthropology – Reveals the dignity of every person and our identity in Christ.
Heroic Virtue and Character Formation – Presents an integrated approach to virtue and living as a person of character who is transformed by grace.
Learning through Discipleship – Inspires students to live as committed disciples of Christ.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Children and their families (including grandparents and friends) will join in the Church at 12:30 p.m. the FIRST Sunday of each month for a family faith formation session. These sessions will include catechesis, speakers, and faith enriching opportunities for the entire family.
Children and their families (including grandparents and friends) will work together at home the following weeks making use of a grade specific workbook, and an interactive family portal that uses a diversity of approaches to reach visual and auditory learners, helping students more deeply engage in the content. This portal allows families exposure to workbook lesson enhancement videos, sacred art videos, Lectio Divina exposure and audio, Catholic prayers, and opportunities to learn key Catholic terms and concepts.
