Year of Discipleship – Let’s Get Started!

Year of Discipleship – Let’s Get Started!

With great expectation, we begin our Year of Discipleship.

Before we dive into a few of the opportunities we will offer to deepen our faith and love of the Lord let us first consider the following questions:

Who made you a disciple?

Who shared the Gospel of Jesus with you?

Discipleship is about passing on the faith that was passed along to you. And so, part of being a disciple of Jesus is to make disciples.

In Sunday’s Gospel, we heard the call of the first disciples. Jesus asked two fishermen to leave their nets and follow Him. “Come after Me, and I will make you fishers of men”. (Matthew 4:19)

Discipleship starts with knowing God and His character and then following Him. The best way to know God’s character, and thereby become a better disciple, is to open the Bible and let Him speak to you through His holy word. Whether you are newly acquainted with the Bible or have been studying for years, we encourage you to join us for a six-week Lenten Bible Study beginning Sunday, February 26th.  Classes will be offered from 5:30 to 7 p.m. here on campus for adults as well as young adults.

Deacon David will lead our Adult Study (10th Grade on up) through the Book of Isaiah: Click Here

Karen Schindler will lead our Young Men’s Bible Study (6th through 9th Grade) Click Here

Mary Hernandez will lead our Young Women’s Bible Study (6th through 9th Grade) Click Here

A second opportunity to deepen your knowledge of God through scripture is to join Fr. Leonardo as he walks us through the Book of James later this Spring. More details coming soon!

What nets would Jesus ask you to leave in following Him?

We may not all be fishermen like Simon called Peter and Andrew, but God has gifted each of us with talents and with His help we can accomplish more for His kingdom than we could have imagined doing on our own. Let’s become more effective disciples by exploring the fruits of the Spirit and discerning our own unique gifts and charisms. We invite you to attend The Holy Spirit Workshop led by Christie Walker, certified Spiritual Gifts Coach, on Saturday, March 18th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We will end our day with Adoration and an opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation before Mass. To visit Christie’s website please visit catholicspiritualgifts.com. More details and registration information will be up on our website very soon. We encourage you to save the date.

Hearing, believing, following and sharing the good news of the Gospel is our goal. I pray that we can cast aside our nets, follow Jesus, and fill our pews with disciples.

“How beautiful are the feet of those who bring the good news”. Romans 10:15

With Love,

Mary
